It’s not unusual to see the owners of C&R Industrial Services working in farm fields instead of behind their desks.
“We sell, install and service our center pivots, and we both really enjoy being out in the field,” said Mike Cox, co-owner of C&R Industrial. “Our customers know they can call either of us any day of the week at any time, and we’ll be there. That’s what sets us apart from the competition.”
Cox and his partner, Tim Roberts, opened their Zimmatic dealership in Statesboro, Georgia, in 2000. They have assembled a team of ten employees to service a steadily growing customer base.
“Our customers primarily grow corn, cotton, peanuts and Vidalia onions. They also grow a fair amount of carrots now, too,” said Cox. “Our weather is unpredictable. They need to be able to water when their crops need it, so they can maximize their yields.”
Cox said an increasing number of customers also are adding FieldNET® to their irrigation systems. A fully integrated wireless management tool, FieldNET gives them the ability to monitor and control their systems from virtually anywhere via a smartphone, tablet or computer.
“They can’t afford to miss a day or two of irrigation, so it’s really important for them to be able to monitor the system and know that everything is operating correctly,” Cox said. “With FieldNET, they get real time alerts when there’s a potential problem, which minimizes downtime. That’s a real benefit for our customers.”
As for the future of agriculture in his area, Cox is optimistic.
“Of course, we need commodity prices to stay decent. If they do, we’ll keep plugging along,” he said. “Our team is committed to helping growers in this area make the most of every acre they farm – providing them with innovative solutions to help them increase yields while reducing input costs.”
